Reading Like A Writer

I think the text was very interesting, and I’m intrigued. I feel like I already read like a writer, and write like a reader, naturally. What I feel like the author meant was reading like a writer gives you the ability to deconstruct the authors work, and reconstruct your work based off of what the author did or what methods he used.

For example, look how the author used parenthesis in the first paragraph. If I wanted to learn how to use parenthesis then I could use that as a reference. So since I’m reading the text like a writer, I see the author uses something a certain way, and now I learn that I can use it the exact way the author did.

I also thought it was weird how the author said something about writing teachers forgetting to teach reading and the importance of it. Through reading, writers get the chance to see the stuff they have been learning in writing class being used. I honestly agree with the author. If your going to teach writing you have to teach reading; they go hand-in-hand. You can’t have writing without reading, and you can’t have reading without writing.

To be honest, I never thought about the point of view that I’m reading from when I’m reading something. Now, I get it. I have to step aside from racing through a text just to get the job done, and really think about what I’m reading. As readers we have to ask ourselves certain questions so we can get the right perspective on what we are reading and what’s being said how and how it’s being said why it’s being said how it’s being said, that’s what make you really start to read like a write when you can start to ask yourself those things before reading a text.
